(Dec 2009) - Unique Thrift Store Contribution to Montgomery County Needy Residents Totals $300,000

Local volunteer models walked the runway putting the “trend” in trendy with looks for less at the Unique Thrift Store’s Second Annual Unique Closet Program fashion show on Wednesday, Dec. 9, in Silver Spring, Md. The event celebrated the success and continuation of the Unique Closet Program, which this year is providing 80 Montgomery County nonprofit organizations and public schools with store gift certificates that enables approximately 7,000 underprivileged residents to purchase needed clothing and household goods of their choice. Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett (right) accepted the Unique Thrift Store’s third annual $100,000 donation, joining fashion show emcee and Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Floreen (center), Unique Thrift Store Principal Dave Kloeber (left) and the models, all of whom have benefited from the Unique Closet Program.

Local volunteer models walked the runway in stylish looks for less at the Unique Thrift Store's first annual Unique Closet Program fashion show on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Silver Spring, Md. The event celebrated the success and continuation of the Unique Closet Program, which last year provided 50 Montgomery County nonprofit organizations and public schools with store gift certificates that enabled approximately 3,000 underprivileged residents to purchase needed clothing and household goods of their choice. Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett  accepted the Unique Thrift Store's second annual $100,000 donation, joining fashion show emcee and Montgomery County Councilmember Valerie Ervin, Unique Thrift Store Principal Dave Kloeber and the models, all of whom have benefitted from the Unique Closet Program.

(July 2008) - More than 1,000 Silver Spring neighbors helped the Hillandale Unique Thrift Store celebrate its commitment to the community at its Second Annual Anniversary Celebration on July 17, featuring a free cookout and steel drum band. Shown here is Hillandale Unique Thrift Store owner Dave Kloeber (rear, center) with staff and participants in the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County�s (MHA) Families Foremost Center program. MHA is one of the local nonprofit organizations benefiting from the store�s Unique Closet Program, which donated $100,000 in gift certificates to deserving County families this year. Halloween at Cresthaven Elementary(October 2007) - Cresthaven Elementary School Principal Kafi Robinson Berry (far right) joined Hillandale Unique Thrift Store owner Orlo Ellison (back left) and wife Christine in celebrating Halloween with several fourth graders at the school’s Halloween parade held Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Students enjoyed a “spooktacular” celebration in costume this year with the help of a new partnership between the school and the Hillandale Unique Thrift Store in Silver Spring. Children in grades 3-5 were allowed to “shop” for costumes at the school’s “boutique” using dollars they earned for good behavior. School staff purchased the costumes using gift certificates donated by the Unique Thrift Store as part of its Unique Closet program.
